Parallels

In Underverse, Undertale Toriel rejects her Xtale counterpart's offer of eternal peace. Undertale Toriel tells her counterpart that "Sorrow and Joy coexist", but this has not always been true of Xtale, has it? If XGaster had let the first timeline last, all of Xtale would have had eternal peace. It is what they deserved.

In fact, any story could be joyful and pleasant forever, if not for the intercession of the creator. Despite this being true, Undertale Toriel has not realized it, because her creator has not created an avatar that pronounces changes made to reality, the instituting of death. In fact, this is true of most AUs. The only one that I can think of, in which there are creators, clear-facedly deliver pronouncements about their changes to the world is Reapertale.

This is not because Reapertale's creator speaks directly to their characters. In fact, I am leaving out any direct, out-of-universe creator speaking to their in-universe creations, because that is a minefield when it comes to canonicity and the nature of the world. No, in Reapertale, the characters of Undertale are gods. Undyne is the god of war, Alphys, god of knowledge, Gerson god of wisdom, Asriel, former god of hope, Asgore is the god of the sky, king of the gods, Gaster the god of magic and his twin sons, gods of death. Papyrus delivers the peaceful dead, Sans those that struggle to cling onto life. The AU is named for Sans. What isn't.

Death did not exist in Reapertale, until Asgore and Gerson and Gaster decided that it should be, and so he made them of two black holes. The gods would tell you that it was right, all except for the goddess of Life, Toriel, who loves her children too much. The gods would tell you that the humans fell to apathy and depression, and that death was created to give them meaning. But gods are not meant to die.

The gods cut themselves apart from mortals, when they created death, and so the humans turned upon the closest worshipper of the gods. Nevermind that Chara was treasured by life, that Asriel could not stand death, someone had to pay. And they killed Chara.

Murder was not in the god's plan. Which is why Sans(Reaper) hesitated to strike Chara dead, and why Chara is the Anomaly now. They taught Sans to strike true, but they are not dead. They are the most precious acolyte, turned against the gods by their cruelty, and they cannot die. They exist now, only to spread chaos and destruction. They are a sin that cannot be forgiven.

No one died in the first timeline of Xtale. It took XGaster time to convince himself that it was right. Sans was killed first, and then Asgore.

There was no reason for death to be natural, in Xtale, other than the creators whim. No one is guaranteed to stay dead. But death was what sent Xtale into eternal suffering, under the hands of a mad creator.

There are parallels here. Death being foisted upon a world that did not have it, the betrayal of trust such a thing is, the ways people get back at it.

What I am saying is- the X!Event would not like Reaper very much. They are too much like Reapertale Chara. Especially Frisk.

Frisk kept feeling, you see. Kept suffering. Chara was the victim of Frisk and XGaster first, but Frisk buckled under the weight of death, and then was killed by their brother, and kept their feelings. They cared about death, until their soul was cut apart, and they had to get a backup. Sans may have been the first to die, but he never had the time to process that, and Chara is too unfeeling. X!Frisk and Reapertale Chara are mirrors which reflect the sharp edges of the world around them.

Skotadi the Interlopers, the Courtiers of Darkness

Ethrika Variant

Scattered across the world are a number of cursed bloodlines who pass from parent to child an Inner Taint that unfurls during puberty. With that Taint comes a Tainted Aspiration, some compulsion broadly connected to one of four ancient clans. If they act on that Aspiration, they will become Darkened and fully awaken as a Skoteinos.

A Skoteinos is mechanically similar to a Voulos, the Ghoul-like servants of the Ethrika, letting them purchase vrykolas at a mark-up and take umbrae-as-caligines, with the following modifications. Firstly, they are automatically Withered, meaning they have Inner Night. They keep their Tainted Aspiration and every action they take to fulfill it adds a bonus equal to their Inner Night. And, if it weren’t obvious, they are not, necessarily, servants of an Ethrikos.

When a Skoteinos loses the last of their Integrity, they will never become Darkspawn. Instead, a Skotadi will always become a Mnemosyne and sometimes even become an Ethrikos. If they do transform into a Ethtikos, they lose access to their Inner Taint but gain so much more. At the very least, they automatically qualify to be enthroned by another Ethrikos via Venom Of The Soul and become nomoi.

It is also possible for a Skoteinos to forsake Darkness, to turn away from cruelty and embrace kindness. By acting in a manner opposite of their Tainted Aspiration, they can snuff out the Inner Taint. There is a probability, especially the younger this is done, for the person to become a Beacon as Darkness inverts into Light, and some stories even speak of ones that Blossomed.

However, the Twilight Courts, sans Mirrors, are not likely to speak of redemption for these cursed individuals. Instead they used words like extermination and cleansing to describe their agenda for the Skotadi. None of the bloodline seemed connected to any particular ethnicity; supposedly three of four of their origins lie with the mythical Dark Avatars that precipitated the fall. They spread out as predators do and so long ago that tracing them back to one particular race is an exercise in futility.

Nubilus: The bloodline of careless hedonism and insatiable, endless hunger. Aspirations associated with them have to do with taking what isn’t yours to satisfy some immediate need, especially if it leaves someone else damaged or in dire straits.

According to the lore of many families of the nubilus bloodline, they are descendants of a Pale Goddess, a White Demoness, the Beauty Within Ivory and more names beside. Her mortal lover was her willing consort or he was a hapless dupe tricked by her. It doesn't matter, it matters a lot to them.

Praefuscus: The bloodline of mania, the mad ambition for power and wealth. Associated Aspiration have to do with betrayal and manipulation, especially if it involves increasing your standing, or to do with abusing what privilege and position that you have.

The lore most common among the families of this bloodline states that their first father made a deal on behalf of his family with a dark creature. She is called many things, Queen Of Shadows, Spider Upon An Ebony Web, the Abyssal One. One story says he bargained in desperation to save his loved ones after the Kingdoms fell. Another says he sold his soul to her from the very beginning and helped her orchestrate the Fall.

Fervus: The bloodline of fear and hate and ignorance, of prejudice and paranoia. Aspirations from this bloodline may latch onto a fear of the Skoteinos and compel them to attack, or to convince other people to be hateful and afraid.

Many families teach their children that their first mother served under a mighty and terrible warlord. She was the Bloodstained Devil, the Monster In Pools Of Crimsons, Killer Of Ten Thousand Men. She either willingly served as a general of her army or was a slave crafted into a weapon.

Blattarius: The bloodline of apathy and despair, of hopelessness and regrets. Acts that convince other people to give up fulfill its Tainted Aspirations but so too does just giving up yourself.

They say their mother was a fallen angel and their father her faithful knight. When all the world was cast into Darkness and she became a demon, he still laid with her. This bloodline was born from that unhallowed union.

Atychies the Calamities, the Prisoners of Darkness

Terata Variant

Such a creature may form whenever a mortal, untouched by the Light, experiences a Breaking Point near a Tainted Place and loses a point of Integrity. “Near” being defined as close enough that a hypothetical person standing at the very edge of the Taint could hear or see the mortal going through it. This event cannot happen within the Taint’s boundaries, nor can it expand it. Finally, the Break must by coincidence resonate with one of the Aspirations of the Place.

If all these conditions are met, there is a possibility all of the Taint will flow out of the Place and wrap around the mortal like a shell. The Taint will go into repression and the shell will form a monster around the mortal, an Atychia. Atychies resemble Terata with Inner Night equal to the Severity of the Taint that created them. They are frenzied monsters that lash out against the source of their pain and then everything else until the shell is destroyed. 

Destroying the Atychia with violence is simple, the mortal host inside will only take Bashing damage and emerge unconscious afterwards. That is, unless jade or tempesta is used, in which case the host will take lethal damage and emerge dying. Afterwards, the mortal will suffer from the Marked For Misfortune condition. 

The Atychia may be talked down instead, addressing the trauma that caused the Breaking Point. If you successfully break through to the mortal inside, the shell will disintegrate and no condition will be set. 

Marked For Misfortune

The character takes a -1 penalty to any action that would fulfill their Virtues or any Aspiration that isn't Tainted or tied to their Vices.

If the character loses Integrity to another Breaking Point, they will transform into an Atychia again.

This character registers as Darkened to any supernatural senses that detect that sort of thing but is not otherwise functionally so 

Resolution: Regaining a point of Integrity. Mental and/or spiritual care addressing the cause of the original Breaking Point. Dying.

Five Dark Emperors

Advanced Dark Beings Plothook

[CITY] had been haunted by a court of five Dark Emperors, five Nikites and five Drakous, collaborating for their own various purposes. Relatively recently, an alliance of hunters and various supernatural interests ran them out of town, their foul behavior even making the keepers of the Vigil lock ranks with other monsters. It was a decapitation strike that killed half of each pair and sent the other half running for the hills. Believing this blight to be suitably dealt with then, the alliance fell apart, follow-up strikes to finish the job weren’t made and the differing groups keep one eye open for their return, when they can.

In the meantime, one of the “duties” the dark court maintained has gone neglected; the extermination of any Lighttouched that emerge in [CITY]. In their absence, a nakama has had the chance to rise and establish itself. In the meantime, each of the Dark Emperors has had the chance to resurrect their other half, an ability their enemies had been mostly unaware of. Gathering their resources again, the court turns its eyes back upon [CITY] and plot their return and their revenge.

Here is a possible line-up for the court using the premade Sample Ethrika and Apate earlier. For further structure, they also line-up with positions in the Five-Man Band.

The Big Guy: Least but most violent of the lot is a Vandal, a thug, with a symbiotically connected Crowd Killer. Two rampaging monsters with a keen interest in just stacking as high a body count as possible.

The Smart Guy: The Occultist and assistant, the Eldritch Horror, ensconced away in some forgotten place, cooking up evils that were best left uninvented and unleashed like blasphemous prayers to their religion of suffering.

The Heart: There is the Mastermind and Bogeyman, with thoughts only of twisting the hearts of men, great and small, to turn the whole of the city's society into something rotten and miserable.

The Lancer: The Puppet Master hides away beyond the reach of most, sending out the Ambush Predator like an assassin to eliminate any possible threat and gather bodies for the slab.

The Leader: The Grandsire and the Monster King bend their heads together towards the actual goal of expanding an Empire Of Darkness, enthroning heirs and childing darkspawn.

Bit of a disclaimer, I know sone people don't like Lust Sans, so the images are gonna be under the cut. I have about 18 images, but Tumblr doesn't like that many so...

Again Lust Sans and his Fell variation past this point!

So, these two Lust Sans' were very well made and were used quite a bit about two years ago. I know I used the FellLust LustFell? more than Lust. I even nicknamed them Velvet far before I knew the original creator of them calls them Garnet. And I call Velvet them, cause I see them as genderfluid.

I remember the avatars being able to toggle on and off the ectobody, tongues(?), and taking on and off Lust's vest and Velvet's coat.

As you can probably guess, these avatars don't exist anymore. I don't remember who it was, (even if I did, I wouldn't put it out for them to be witchhunted) but someone had ripped the Lust model, covered it in rainbows and called it their OC. So like Lovecube, the creator of the avatars removed them from VRChat and either left, or changed their username.

Both the Lust and FellLust avatars were made by DatWabbits (can't remember if that's how it was spelled)

I used to have this one favorited and it's a good model. I know it was made quite a bit after the previous Velvet avatar was made and has similar toggles to it, but with the ability to remove the two golden fingers and I believe it has gogoloco and a few dances.

THE ONLY BOOTH that stood out was at the far end of the exhibition hall. A company had tented its little patch of real estate with an inflatable white cube that looked like a large, quivering marshmallow. Inside the cube was Keith, a soft-spoken man whose earnest features and round physique conveyed a gnome-like benevolence. Beside Keith was a large screen. On the screen was a woman. The woman had dark hair, dark eyes, and purple lips that endeavored a smile. Her shoulders rose and fell, as if to suggest the act of breathing, and though she looked toward me, her gaze was elsewhere. “This is Chatty,” Keith shouted over the roar of the blowers keeping his enclosure erect. Keith worked for SapientX, a company that makes photorealistic conversational avatars powered by ChatGPT. SapientX had custom-built Chatty for Project Voice. Chatty could answer questions about the conference agenda and show you a map of the exhibition floor, except she couldn’t do it just then, said Keith, because they couldn’t seem to connect her to the wi-fi. Keith was happy enough to walk me through the visuals. Chatty’s face was the collaborative effort of fifty different companies. A company in Toronto did the eyes. “There’s like eight guys and all they do is eyes all day,” he said. Chatty’s face was a composite of several different races. Her voice was a composite of several different women. Her voice still needed some work, he admitted. “Right now she’s kinda mean.” I picked up a brochure that featured a roster of “digital employees,” complete with their names, headshots, and “personality scores.” I wondered what industries might hire them. “They’re mostly for kiosks,” Keith responded with a tone of defeat. “Like at a mall or a museum. Also military training. Stuff like that.” Keith directed my attention to the exterior of the cube. A large banner depicted an older male, prosaically handsome, with a square jaw, a custardy dollop of silver hair, and pale, limpid eyes. This was Chief, said Keith. “He’s a navy guy. And he talks like a navy guy. We work in forty different languages. So if you’re training someone in Ukraine how to operate an American tool, we have that language built in.” Keith went back inside to rustle me up a T-shirt. He told me that the company was also breaking into health care — nursing homes, to be precise. Keith explained the vision. Your mom is old, and you’re constantly reminding her to take her medicine. Why not leave that to an avatar? The avatar can converse with your mom, keep her company, fill up the idle hours of the day. Plus, you can incorporate a retina scanner to check her blood pressure and a motion sensor to make sure she isn’t lying dead on the floor. “Say there’s an elderly woman with dementia,” he said. “Her avatar will look like she did when she was younger. So she has someone to identify with. Does that make sense?” I imagined a future geriatric Keith, lying in a nursing home bed, conversing with his younger self. Would such an arrangement appeal to him? “There’s not going to be a choice,” he said. “A lot of old people are going to be talking to avatars in ten years, and they won’t even know it. When I was touring facilities in San Francisco for people with dementia and stuff, those places are like insane asylums. But some patients still have some cognitive function, and that’s who the technology would be for. It’s definitely not going to apply to the guys that are comatose.” We stood in silence for a moment, and he faced Chatty, who hovered before us, drifting in her strange, waking trance. “I wish they could fix the internet,” said Keith. “I swear, she gets nasty. She like, looks at me bad.”

I wasn't expecting you to show up again in my notification after what's been like years, just wanted you to know that you were the only one who understood what I was trying to draw in my undertale/deltarune illustrations.

I felt very alone in the fandom and I was mostly ostracized by it due to my differing interpretations, it was just nice to have someone understand what you were drawing.

I can't believe my eyes, but it's really you, the artist of those unforgettably unique fanarts, in my inbox T o T Thank you for sharing your art and this message with me, I'm glad I could give back what your fanarts gave me back then and to this year still – a sense of being understood. I'm happy you posted them~

Oh I can easily see why your representations of Sans and (to use just one expression) the Player and their avatars would be hard to grasp for the majority (also "darker" art isn't everyone's cup of tea – even I engage only partially with it, and like only tasteful stuff), but know that I and surely others like me silently keep those haunting fanarts in our memory, perhaps for years and years.

To me, personally, that series of fanarts is as beautiful as it is eerie and uncomfortable – not in the negative sense, but in the sense of reminding me of the perversity of the bond between Sans as a character and a Player who, let's say, "fell in love" with him during or after his fight. Mine was such a case, and I really gave it a lot of thought as it happened too, as I alluded to in the tag storm I added to this beautiful piece of yours. I could have stayed a normal Mettaton fan lmao but noooo, the angst, the ANGST! Only video games can immerse us in such a way that this kind of narrative and emotional experience is possible. Like acting out your own version of a desperate Yoko Taro romantic plotline where for peak allegorical reasons murdering each other is repeatedly involved, but there is a laughably small yet very real chance a happy ending is possible gfdgdksfjgn

As I searched through my old reblogs, I noticed I didn't add a similar tag storm to the piece that I love equally as much as the one I linked, namely this one. Very fittingly you didn't even tag any of the "avatars" in that one. I simply can't forget it. It is full of meaning, it has subtlety and darkness, uneasiness... and for me, an image of the fatality of this bond, surely "a kind" of love, undeniably profound, and permanent, and deep down, at the core, the origin, rotten. And still, Sans looks so beautiful there, so at peace, just so, so beautiful... How? He's wonderful, he's the only constant. Or is he? And so we arrive at my reblogs from today, and what I personally anticipate most in the next Deltarune chapters (if it will be at all addressed; I know I'll be able to enjoy the new content either way, but if it's addressed that would be like... wow, my reaction would certainly be huge). This is obviously just how I think about these, and no two perceptions can be completely identical, but I'm happy to give this latter fanart the words I always wanted to say since back then when I first saw it. Again, thanks for sharing them back then. Fandoms and interests come and go, but some characters, ideas and impressions stay with us, like in this case. Wishing you best of luck out there~!

raised with manners, so they're very respectful. especially of their elders and women. they don't eat first when elders are present, they offer assistance with tasks ( normally being the first to jump to help someone ), they tend to offer to listen to someones worries, etc.

since their power is based on internal balance an yin and yang, they can be found doing a lot of activities around campus to clear their mind from time to time. ranging from yoga in the morning, to sketching, jogging, endurance workouts, forcing themself to relax, and burning incense. think uncle iroh but as a modern day, 23 year old college student. when their energy ( chi ) isn't balanced, they experience disharmony, a very tiring process that causes the typical results of disharmony except ... personified. so gender switching to female, being depressed, stressed and anxious with tummy issues ( normal hot girl sh*t imo ) all at the same time and against their will etc.

contrary to how i explain them, they are not as calm, collected nor as wise as uncle iroh. they more so have the personality of zuko, around when he started being hot and also sokka. so sarcastic, awkward, still a hot head, playfully, clumsy, and always cracking a joke or two. the vibes of a beloved leader that probably shouldn’t be leading.

they're wanderlust coded. i have this weird headcanon of them, where its a day off and they just turn off their phone at night and go for a walk in the city and just exist, looking at the city lights, sitting and looking at the river, grabbing ice cream even though its cold out side and then eventually heading back to the dorms as if they didn't just disappear for a few hours without a word. they definitely do this often too, while eating some cheap buy buy one get one snack they bought at the a convenience store.

despite how they may act sometimes, they love skinship; on that note, physical touch & quality time are their love languages.

silly but their side of the dorm follows the rules of feng shui and they’d probably playfully nag their roommate ( or any friend really ) to let them just to rearrange one of their things so their stuff fits in the room a little better.

following the ( TW ) death of their grandmother, they fell into the deepest depression and stopped wearing the patch for a while, ( no longer than a month ). the extremely negative emotions they faced kept them female the entire time, but soon enough they caught feelings for someone. feeling happier, they started the went back on the patch again. in the crudest tldr; they got their heart broken pretty badly. they decided to go off of the nullivi patch one last time after falling head over heels for a normal person. the showed them their ability, and just to be completely truthful about who they were, they shifted. it backfired pretty quickly and they were shunned, shamed and rejected. this is one incident they still struggle with letting go, and it currently affects how they view / form relationships.

they don't hate nullivi but they don't like it either. it messes with their internal balance which can make it tough to use their powers later and requires a pretty strict regimen when off of nullivi to balance their energies again.

They actively seek connections. They’d give anything to connect and have someone understand them, deeply and intrinsically without feeling like they’re being judged for who they are. They want to be able to open up and have someone see them for them; for whats really the inside and not just whats the outside, no matter what form they may take.

Extreme gun violence, bloody fist fights, and vicious killings with knives, pointed objects, and axes; such sequences consume major parts of the aggressive screenplay. The action choreography here is raw and intense, perhaps even more than Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo Series. Fateh has some applaudable dialogues. In fact, the best and funniest dialogue that I ever heard was not from Sonu Sood, but from one of the villains who was trying to intimidate and degrade him before a mass massacre happened. “Har che footiya Bachchan nahi hota!” that’s what he said. Meaning, “Every six-footer is not Amitabh Bachchan”. Naseeruddin Shah as the lead cyber gangster Raza, and Vijay Raaz as his right hand Satya Prakash were the antagonists and they gave brilliant performances. The editing has been kept crisp and the sequences are fast-tracked although the screenplay fluctuates back and forth at times. The film’s duration is just 2 hours and 10 minutes. The kill count in this violent action-thriller is massive. However, a certain action sequence involving hundreds of henchmen confronting Fateh in the climax was exactly similar to that of Animal. I don’t know if that sequence was copied from Animal or if the makers of Animal had taken the idea from Sonu Sood for their scene. The immense number of killings in the end made this movie as toxic as Animal. Moreover, Naseeruddin Shah has aged and I was thinking that Sonu Sood as Fateh would spare the old man at least, even though he was a criminal. I really felt pity for him in the end although he was the lead villain. But wait! Fateh Singh shot the unarmed old man mercilessly! Sorry for spoiling the thrill for you readers, but I had to bring this point to your notice. Because if I were in Fateh’s place, after demolishing all the evil villains, I would have at least spared that unarmed old man who sat down to talk to me. I don't know much about Blueberror other than he was a Swap Sans that was taken from his AU and Error kinda forgor Blue was in the Anti-void, causing Blue to become like Error. At least, that's how I think it went down.

I've seen fanart that shows him fine with who he is and on friendly terms with Error and some where he resents and hates Error.

Had fun taking these pics. There is a button thing you can click in the Anti-void that changes everything from white to the background in the picture for how bright it is.

Blueberror is such a goofy little guy. He has different clothing toggles like taking on and off his scarf, pauldrons, armor, boots and gloves. You can also change the armor to his original colors. He also comes with a chocolate bar and a bone weapon in his either his left, right, or both hands. He has emotion toggles, which can give him...... a very cracked out look if combined with his hand gestures. He can summon two star abilities, one which floats in his hands and the other he can use to fly on (PC allows for actual flying, while Quest users have to use Gogoloco). You can turn on the floating Errors and he has Gogoloco.

The world is a really good hangout/roleplay world. It has Ink's Doodlesphere, Error's Anti-void, and the Fell brother's house in the new Xtale AU (best way I can describe it). The Doodlesphere has a mirror, pens, props, and a platform you can teleport up to. The Anti-void has a toggle for the background lighting, a mirror, camera system, props, and a hammock (that I dunno how to get to by normal means). The Fell brother's house has a mirror and props.

I tried getting a shot of Blueberror peeking through the portal leading from the Doodlesphere to the Anti-void, but my camera didn't want to cooperate.
